It’s Halloween week in the town of Cedar Grove. All the shops are ready for the festivities.
Halloween means a special book club night at Pages & Scones the night before. The special guest, Alan McCullough, is there to talk about his mysteries and sign a couple of his latest novels.
The night is not all fun and games. It starts when Alan is revealed to be a sexist jerk, when he writes mysteries about a strong and confident female sleuth. It ends with fellow business owner, Sherry Schaefer, accusing Alan of misdeeds.
Riley and Sherry haven’t gotten along since he moved back to Cedar Grove. That all changes when Alan’s body is discovered with a pair of her pruning shears stabbed through his chest. When the police zero in on her as the prime suspect, Sherry asks Riley to investigate.
